3 Ways to Encourage Your Church to Love

For many of us, February brings an opportunity to show love, kindness, and appreciation to those near and dear to us.

As pastors and church leaders, we recognize that our attenders may be turning to the candy store, flower shop, or big box retailer to find their gifts, but the Church can offer something much sweeter.

3 Ways to Encourage Your Church to Love

1. Encourage kindness

As followers of Jesus, we’re called to love God with all our heart, soul, strength, and mind, and to love others as ourselves. One of the most basic ways we love others is through kindness.

Be honest for a moment. Is there someone in your life that it’s just hard to be nice to? Chances are your attenders struggle in this area, too.

Author Shaunti Feldhahn created the “30-Day Kindness Challenge,” available to churches for free on the Life.Church Open Network. The Challenge allows attenders to take negative thoughts captive, and make them obedient to Christ. It helps your congregation or small groups ministry to focus on replacing negativity and strife with positivity, praise, and kindness.

Learn more about the full scope of resources available for free, including everything you need to lead your church through the challenge: videos, participant/leader guides, social media images, and more. Start the Challenge near Valentine’s Day or offer this to attenders as a resource for Lent.

2. Encourage the Word

When we think about love, we often think romance: rose petals, fancy dinners, and candlelight. But, love is more than that. Love is patient; love is kind.

Focusing on connecting with your spouse isn’t a bad thing, but encourage your attenders to grow deeper in their love for each other and for God by engaging in his Word. The YouVersion Bible App has several great reading plans couples can do together to grow in their relationship with each other and Christ.

3. Encourage Invites

Here at Life.Church, we’ve developed what we call an ‘invite culture’—our attenders love to invite people to church! Help the kids and students in your children’s ministry to have the same passion for inviting people to church by equipping them to invite.
