4 Tips from a First-Time Church Planter

“Love people into the kingdom.”

That’s what Zack Harris’ father told him in 2010 shortly before he passed away from cancer.

“I remember thinking that advice was so simple and profound. Out of all of the things he could say, he chose that statement,” said Zack.

His father’s phrase reminded him of what Jesus did and said.

“Jesus came to seek and save the lost, and before ascending to heaven, He told his disciples to go into all the world and make disciples. His calling was so simple and so profound, just like my father’s advice,” Zack added.

First-time church planters, Zack and his wife Nicole are planting Life City Church in Denver, Colorado this weekend. From the start, Life City Church will walk in step with Life.Church content.

As they prepared for this launch, the Harrises researched and found that 70-80% of the three million people in Denver metro area didn’t go to church anywhere. They knew that fact was not okay with God, and it wasn’t okay with them.

As Pastor Craig Groeschel shared in a recent podcast, “To reach your destiny you may have to step away from your security.” That’s exactly what the Harrises did.

“Planting a church isn’t easy, but walking in faith really never is.”

Maybe you’re in the same boat. You feel God calling you to plant a church, but you haven’t taken the first step.

In this video, Zach shares some church planting tips he’s learned along the way.

Four Tips for Planting a Church

  1. If your vision doesn’t scare you, it may not be big enough. Dream big, and trust that God will show up.
  2. Be on the same page with your spouse. If you’re married, both spouses need to be all-in—both of you have to be called to ministry.
  3. If you’re not willing to ‘bet the farm,’ you shouldn’t do it. If you aren’t willing to give everything for your calling, you may want to reconsider.
  4. Give things away to other leaders! Empower other people to lead and make decisions on your behalf.

We’re excited for the launch of Life City Church, and we’re praying that God does big things through this local church. Drop by Life City Church on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram and encourage them as they launch this weekend!
