When we invite people to church, lives can be changed. But how can we inspire our church to fully embrace a culture that drives invitations?
We all have reasons that may keep us from inviting our community to church, from feeling nervous to hearing “no,” but the more practice we get, the easier it gets.
In an effort to help our attenders push past fear and invite others to church, our Creative Media team here at Life.Church brainstormed a video promo campaign that addressed a pain point attenders may feel when extending an invitation to church—the fear of what might happen.
What’s the Worst that Can Happen?
This video and two others answer the question “What’s the worst that could happen?” to encourage your attenders to invite friends and family to church.
Running an invitation video on the weekend is great, but we also need to lead our attenders to embrace an invitation culture. Encourage your congregation to follow this formula:
“The right heart plus the right activity plus the right amount of time always equals the right results.”
- The right heart: we invite others, not to grow our church, but because we are followers of Christ and want people to experience the grace of Jesus.
- The right activity: having the right tool is key. We use invite cards to start conversations with others. Learn their names, get to know them, and let them get to know you.
- The right amount of time: when we’re consistent with the right heart and right activity for an extended period of time, we always get the right result. Lead your attenders to invite, invite again, and invite some more—not just invite once.
If your members feel overwhelmed, encourage them to start small. It can be as simple as leaving an invitation card with their restaurant receipt; make sure to tip well!
The more your church practices inviting strangers, the easier it will be to invite people they know. Remember what Jesus said: “Come and see.” Simple and direct.
