How to Create an Engaging Invite Culture at Your Church

What if one invitation changed someone’s eternity?

It could. An invitation to church might seem small—just a simple “Hey, want to come with me on Sunday?” But that invitation could be the moment someone encounters Jesus for the first time. It could be the beginning of a life transformed.

Here’s the thing: Inviting is woven into the fabric of our faith.

He’s given us the opportunity to extend that same invitation. The Great Commission isn’t just a command; it’s an invitation to invite. To go out into the world and lead people to Jesus.

So if inviting is such an important part of our faith, how do we lead our people to partake in this mission? How do we create a church culture where inviting isn’t awkward or forced, but natural and exciting?

Here are three ways to create an engaging invite culture at your church.

1. Talk About It (A Lot)

If you want your church to invite people, you have to talk about it. Regularly. Passionately. From the heart.

The truth is: Your people won’t invite if they don’t understand why it matters. They need to hear the vision behind it. And they need to hear it more than once.

Don’t just say, “Invite someone this week.” Cast the vision. Remind them why inviting matters.

It’s not because you want the biggest church in the world. It’s not about hitting attendance numbers or filling seats.

It’s because you know what an invitation did for you. You know that when your people invite someone to church, that person has the opportunity to meet Jesus—potentially for the first time in their lives. Eternity is on the line.

So talk about it. Make it fun. Tell stories. Celebrate when someone brings a friend. Share testimonies of people whose lives were changed because someone invited them.

When you talk about inviting with passion and purpose, your church starts to see it differently. It’s not a task. It’s a mission. It’s an opportunity to be part of someone’s salvation story.

Ask yourself: Am I casting vision for why inviting matters, or am I just reminding people to do it?

2. Make It Visible

Culture grows when it’s visible.

At Life.Church, we put invite cards on every seat, every single week. Some people pick them up. Some people ignore them. And yes, sometimes they fall off people’s laps when they stand up.

But here’s what happens: When people see invite cards every single week, it reinforces the message. Inviting becomes part of the rhythm. It’s not a one-time campaign. It’s woven into the culture.

There’s something powerful about repetition. When your people hear about inviting from stage, see invite cards in their seats, and notice posters in the lobby, it becomes impossible to ignore. It becomes part of your church’s DNA.

So how do you make inviting visible at your church?

Maybe it’s putting invite cards on every chair in your auditorium. It might be having them stacked in your information area. Maybe it’s creating invite-focused social media graphics your people can share. Maybe it’s a poster in the lobby that says, “Who are you praying for? Who are you inviting?”

Whatever it is, make inviting something your people hear, see, and experience every single week.

When inviting is visible, it becomes normal. And when it becomes normal, it is a part of your culture.

Ask yourself: Is inviting visible at my church, or is it just something I mention occasionally?

3. Lead the Way

Here’s the reality: If you’re not inviting people to your church, it’s going to be hard to expect your congregation to do it.

You have to lead the way.

Your people are watching you. When you share from the stage about the neighbor you invited, the coworker you’re praying for, or the friend you’re bringing next week, it permits them to do the same.

So model it. Be intentional about inviting people into your own life. And then share those stories with your church.

But don’t stop there. Equip your church to invite too.

Here are some practical ways to do that:

Do an invite challenge.
Challenge your church to invite one person in the next month. Create excitement around it. Maybe even offer a prize or celebration for those who bring someone new.

Create a photo op in your auditorium.
Give people a fun, shareable moment they can post on social media. When they post it, their friends see it. And suddenly, inviting becomes natural.

Have a place where people can write down who they’re inviting.
Put a board in your lobby where people can write a name and commit to praying for that person. Public commitment increases follow-through.

Share the story.
Make it a big deal. When people see that inviting is valued, they’re more likely to do it.

The truth is: Inviting isn’t about growing numbers. It’s about leading and discipling your church to do what we’re all called to—the Great Commission.

“Go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.” Matthew 28:19 NIV

When your church catches the vision that inviting is part of following Jesus, everything changes. It’s not just the pastor’s job. It’s their mission too.

Ask yourself: Am I leading by example when it comes to inviting, or am I just asking others to do what I’m not doing?

You’ve Got This

Creating an invite culture doesn’t happen overnight. It happens when you consistently talk about it, make it visible, and lead the way.

Every invitation matters. The neighbor. The coworker. The family member. The friend who’s been curious about faith. Someone in your community is one invitation away from meeting Jesus.

What’s one thing you can do this week?

  • Talk about inviting from stage with passion and purpose
  • Put invite cards on every seat in your auditorium
  • Share your own story of inviting someone
  • Create a visible reminder in your lobby

Your church has the potential to reach people who don’t know Jesus. It starts with one invitation.
