Why Your Church Should Consider the Mannequin Challenge

If you spend any amount of time on social media channels, you’ve no doubt seen the latest Internet craze: the Mannequin Challenge.

From football teams to corporate offices to even Sesame Street, this phenomenon is taking over social media streams.

We think the #MannequinChallenge is a great way for churches to be culturally relevant and reach people in their communities in a fun way.

Why?

As humans, we’re constantly seeking people we can relate to. That’s how friendships and groups form— individuals connected by a common thread.

One of the common denominators we all share is our desire to have fun, to laugh, to be entertained.

Sure, the #MannequinChallenge probably won’t lead someone to Christ. But, for nonbelievers or the non-churched, they just may appreciate the brief break from reality and want to know more about the church that did something fun to reach them where they are.

And isn’t that what we want as we advance the Gospel? To reach people where they are, sharing the love of Christ in expected and unexpected ways?

Here at Life.Church, one of our core values is:

“We will laugh loud, hard, and often. Nothing is more fun than serving God with people you love!”

We truly believe this, and as believers, we have so much joy because of who Christ is! Let’s let that joy shine in person—and on social media.

Consider challenging other churches in your area to the #MannequinChallenge! Be sure to use the hashtag, and throw in this one, too. #WeLoveTheLocalChurch We’d love to see your best pose!

FOMO is real, so don’t take chances.
