A Letter to Pastors: You Matter

A letter from the Life.Church Open Network Team,

As the year comes to a close, take a pause and remind yourself this: You matter.

For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God—not by works, so that no one can boast. For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do. Ephesians 2:8–10 NIV

God sees your passion. He sees your devotion to reach people for Jesus. But more importantly, God sees you—your faithfulness, your long hours, and your heart to serve His people.

You are His handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works. Here are a few reminders to reflect on as you head toward the end of the year.

You’re Called on Purpose, for a Purpose

No matter your title—lead pastor, church leader, kids director—you’re in your role for a reason. God has entrusted people to your leadership. Because of your obedience, lives have been changed.

People have found community, families have been brought back together, and the lost have met Jesus for the first time. Thank you for your yes to God’s calling. In times when you might doubt yourself, remember that you are called on purpose, for a purpose.

Remember Your Why

Why did you say yes to ministry? What moved your heart to lead? What has God done since you began this journey?

Your journey is specific and unique to you. God gave you specific passions, skills, and abilities to reach the people He has called you to reach. You are a warrior. You are chosen. You are called. You are equipped. When you remember those truths, it helps you lead with a renewed sense of gratitude and purpose.

Look Ahead With Hope

With all the incredible things that have happened this year, the best is still ahead of you. God has already prepared the good works for you to do in the coming year.

Continue to lead with passion, faith, and an unwavering dependence on Jesus Christ—the one who saved you, the one who calls you friend.
